New to Unily! Introducing targeted homepages for your employees

Your homepage is the landing page of your intranet and you have just seconds to grab your employees’ attention. How do you ensure it’s relevant and engaging enough to keep people coming back for more? Unily’s brand new targeted homepage functionality is here to help!

We’re delighted to introduce the new targeted homepage feature within Unily, allowing you to personalise homepage layouts, widgets and content for different groups of employees across your intranet. The result? A more compelling and relevant homepage experience for every employee, regardless of their brand, role or location, keeping them coming back for more.

This builds on the existing functionality which allows content managers to target particular pieces of content to groups of employees, making the intranet more personalised than ever.

Why is this important?

When it comes to an intranet homepage for a global organisation, one size doesn’t always fit all. Not only do employees want to see personalised content, they also want to see widgets and features that are most relevant to the job they do. For example, employees working in the Marketing team may need a social feed front and center on the homepage. Whereas the IT team may prefer a report of latest IT support tickets and their statuses.

With targeted homepage functionality, achieving this is now simple, empowering intranet managers to simply manage two variations of the homepage from within the CMS and target them appropriately.

This empowers you to deliver a more relevant homepage to your employees that will ultimately help to cut through the noise, delivering the most relevant tools and information to improve engagement and productivity levels. Some example use cases for targeted homepages could be:

  • For members of a specific department
  • For employees based in a specific location
  • For employees who require a specific set of tools such as productivity or social based
  • For employees who work within a brand or division
  • For new starters to highlight essential information

How does this work?

Targeted homepages are simple to build within the CMS, using Unily’s Grid and Widget functionality released as part of the Unily Summer Update in 2017. Targeting Rules are then created within the CMS, specifying which groups of employees you’d like to target each homepage to. This could be a dynamic (automatically created based on profile properties from Unily or Azure AD) or a static audience for a one-off campaign. It’s as simple as:

  1. Defining your audience within the CMS
  2. Creating a Homepage Targeting Rule
  3. Designing your homepage
  4. Setting your homepage

Rules are intelligently managed to allow you to specify what should happen if an employee is in more than one audience.

Let’s see it in action

The homepage below has been designed and targeted to a Marketing team, giving them an overview of external social media content from Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, alongside essential internal news, events, department conversations and a widget highlighting new team members.

Alternatively, this homepage is targeted to the IT team, with more widgets focused around productivity including a PowerBI report of IT Incidents, frequently accessed Apps and Tools and a list of Tasks from Outlook.

These homepages have been easily setup within the Unily CMS, dramatically improving the impact of the page for these two sets of users.
