The Employee Services use case, according to Gartner, is designed to “serve and satisfy employees by making them aware of policies and procedures through business and IT service and self-service.” This category reflects the need for organizations to improve operational efficiency by providing employees with easy access to vital services and support. The integration of these services into an intranet solution helps streamline internal workflows, reducing the reliance on manual processes and external platforms.

Gartner’s commentary in their report highlights that employee services are often deprioritized, despite being a primary reason employees access their intranet. Gartner points out that "most content-centric IPSs are poorly equipped" to handle the complex workflows and back-end system integrations required for this use case. Additionally, since communications leaders typically control IPS purchases, employee services are often not prioritized.

However, the risk of ignoring employee services is underscored by a 2022 Harvard Business Review study, which found that employees spend an average of 9% of their annual work time toggling between different apps. Consolidating applications could offer significant time savings by minimizing this.
