Since 2011, The Gartner Communications Awards have been one of the leading events for recognizing impactful communications initiatives from around the world. The awards showcase innovative approaches to messaging that have earned unparalleled results that benefit the entire enterprise.
Now in its tenth year, the competition for a spot on Gartner’s shortlist is fierce as ever. In 2021, judges received more than 400 entries from organizations in 32 countries. Submissions have now been narrowed down to a shortlist of 48 entries across Gartner’s seven categories.
We’re excited to announce that three of our clients have earned a spot in the finals for four of these categories. This includes ChampionX for Excellence in Communications Technology, Baker Hughes for Excellence in Change Communications, and Telstra for both Excellence in Crisis Communications and Small Idea, Big Impact.
Unily first to win four Nielsen Norman Group best intranet awards
Four intranet solutions built on Unily's employee experience platform have been selected by the Nielsen Norman Group as the world's best intranets of 2021. Johnson & Johnson, Baker Hughes, Cathay Pacific, and Commonwealth Care Alliance have all been recognized by the global UX institute for delivering world-class digital employee experiences.

What does it take to beat out hundreds of applications and gain Gartner’s recognition for internal communications excellence? ChampionX, Baker Hughes, and Telstra have all created compelling entries that showcase the innovative strategies that set their messaging apart. Their winning approaches include:
#1. ChampionX - Excellence in Communications Technology
ChampionX, a global leader in upstream and midstream oilfield technology solutions, has earned a nod from Gartner for the launch of Discover, their enhanced intranet. Their shortlisted entry is entitled “Discover your new ChampionX intranet – A lean team, fast and multi-phase launch to unify our company after a spin-off and merger.”
#2. Baker Hughes - Excellence in Change Communications
Energy technology company Baker Hughes was also named on Gartner’s shortlist. The enterprise was recognized for their entry in the Excellence in Change Communications category, titled “Baker Hughes Leadership Forum and Leader Guide and Hub.

Communicating in a crisis is never easy, but Telstra has demonstrated a winning strategy with their Gartner entry. Entitled “Telstra – Bushfires Response”, the submission showcases how Australia’s largest mobile network navigated a natural disaster.
#4. Telstra - Small Idea, Big Impact
Adding to Telstra’s success, the enterprise was also shortlisted for the Small Idea, Big Impact category, which highlights seemingly minor innovations that have generated significant results. Their entry is called “Telstra & The Chief Conspiracy Investigator.”
